Assessing Your Child’s Progress

This year, District 205 will be administering the NWEA MAP assessment three times per year in the fall, winter, and spring to students in grades K-8.  NWEA MAP is a computer-based, multiple choice assessment that assesses students’ current ability levels in reading and math; it is an adaptive test, which means that the questions become easier or harder depending on the child’s progress throughout the assessment.  It is untimed, but students usually finish within 20-40 minutes.  Teachers use this data to plan for differentiated instruction and flexible grouping.  You can find more information on the NWEA Family website.  NWEA MAP testing begins next week and will continue the following week.  Your child’s teacher may provide specific dates for their grade level.

PTA Math Night – Thursday, 9/23, 6:30-7:30PM

Come ready to try out some fun and exciting math activities with your family! If you are interested in attending, please fill out this quick form so that we can prepare for a GREAT event! Please keep in mind that this is a family event! All children must be supervised by an adult the entire time. Please respond by September 15th!!

Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures

Please remember the only place to drop students off is the Drop and Go Zone in the Mary Queen lot.  There is no drop off permitted on Ferndale or West Street.  Police will be present in the coming weeks to ensure these procedures are followed - please help us be good neighbors to our local residents.

Calling all 4th and 5th-grade parents!

Is your child interested in learning more about competition, teamwork, problem-solving, and good sportsmanship? If so, Intramurals is the way to go! There will be a wide variety of competitive sports played from Ultimate Football to Basketball, Kickball, Soccer, and a few more that students will vote on. Permission slips were sent home with students on Thursday, 9/2. Students need to have a signed permission slip in order to participate. We will be able to accommodate 30 students in the order of permission slips received. For those who have not yet paid, please be on the lookout for a charge on your Pushcoin account in the near future. Permission slips must be turned in before the first session (Tuesday, September 7th for 4th Grade and Thursday, September 9th for 5th Grade).

Please contact Mrs. Berkowitz (rweglarz@elmhurst205.org) or Mrs. Sorensen (psamutthai@elmhurst205.org) with any questions!
