News Post

Hello Emerson Families!

Happy October!  It is hard to believe we are in the fall season since the weather has been so beautiful!  Next week, we will be kicking off our first PBIS/SEL (Positive Behavior Intervention/Social Emotional Learning) theme for the year about respect.  As Aretha famously sang, “R-E-S-P-E-C-T - find out what it means to me...” our students will be sharing what respect looks and sounds like.  Throughout the month, we will have short lessons about how to respect one’s self, others, and the world around us.  This will culminate in a spirit week the last week of October and celebration.  More information to follow each week!

NWEA MAP reports will be available shortly; you will receive a notification from the district so that you can log into PowerSchool to see your child’s results.  I will also include parent information in next week’s newsletter to help explain what the test results mean.

Parking Lot Safety

Please be sure that you and your child are using the designated crosswalks to cross in the parking lot.  We have staff and Rec Station pulling into the parking lot and our safety patrols are there to help everyone cross safely in the crosswalks.  Also, please listen to our safety patrol students and our staff if they are asking you to stop or slow down if you are driving.  This demonstrates respect to everyone in our Eagle Community.

Inside Out Club

It’s never too early to start equipping your kids with the character skills they need to problem solve, express empathy, cope with challenges in a positive way, think of new ideas, appreciate life’s gifts and so much more.  Inside Out Club’s unique educational and volunteer opportunities combine social and emotional learning (SEL) with service learning to empower kids to care for others, themselves, animals and the planet. For the first time, Emerson will be hosting an Inside Out Club (IOC) after school program. We will meet from 3-4 pm on the following Wednesdays: 10/27, 11/3, 11/10 and 11/17. To learn more about the program and to register your child, visit their site here: https://www.insideoutclub.org/. Space is limited so register today!  Click here for flyer!

Fidgets

If you feel your child needs a fidget during class in order to help them concentrate, please let their classroom teacher know.  We are requesting that fidgets not be sent from home as they are becoming toys that are being traded and distracting from learning.  Once you contact your child’s teacher, we will be sure to provide him/her with a fidget from school that remains in the classroom.

Forward Together Plan

Throughout this pandemic, the health and safety of Elmhurst District 205 students and staff remain our highest priority. Elmhurst School District 205 has developed a comprehensive plan aligned to local, state and federal guidance. The Forward Together Plan for 2021-22 offers some frequently asked questions about the reopening of our schools, the District’s health and safety protocols; sanitation and ventilation mitigations and a Dashboard that presents COVID-19 metrics. As health information and related procedures change, we will continue to review and update the plan, as well as continue to monitor local health and safety metrics. If you have additional questions, please email Forwardtogether@elmhurst205.org.
