We love celebrating birthdays in second grade!

Our school policy, however, does not allow food treats to be brought into the classroom. If your child would still like to bring in a treat, non-food items may be brought in. Examples include pencils, erasers, bookmarks, stickers, etc.

Everyday in second grade we enjoy a snack. Water bottles will be allowed as long as they do not become a distraction. Please encourage your student to bring in a healthy snack each day to enjoy as we work.

Classroom News

This week we began some switching for acceleration groups.  Each 2nd grade teacher is teaching a different type of Folktale.  Some of our class went to Ms. Kawa this past week to learn about fables.  Next week, we will visit with Ms. Valdez to learn about Tall Tales.  We also continued talking about how to retell a story with details.  We used an acronym:  SCOOP.  See if your child can tell you what it means!  (s=setting  c=characters, o=oh no!  Problem, o=order of the story, p=problem resolution)

This week, we worked on Module 1.  We are really focusing on making 10's and using that knowledge to help us with more difficult addition and subtraction.   At home, you can have your child go on ZEARN to work on their math skills.  They can log on by going to the link on this site.  Then they should click on "sign in with google".  It will ask them for their email which is their login number plus  If your child does not know their login and password, please email me and I will send it to you on Monday.

This week, we worked on our 3rd narrative story.  We talked about focusing on adding in more details and dialogue into this story.  We also talked about run-on sentences and how to fix them in our writing.

Science/Social Studies

This week we started a new unit that looks at how things in a habitat depend on each other.  We did some reading and vocabulary discussion.  We also went outside to investigate and observe our school habitat.
